An increase of 25% as Translucent and semi transparent require every 5’ of
Spraying to be hand brused…therefore 25% more labour.

We powersand all wood with a 5” orbital(round) sander.
On older fences this removes the raised grain ,a result of being exposed to
To years of rain.
On newer fences it dulls or removes the shiny “millglaze”

Millglaze is a ‘satin” shine created in the wood mill in creating planks/boards
As the saw blade cuts through the log , it gets very hot, this heat causes the
Resins in the wood to crystallize, causing a shiny skin .
With cedar this millglaze can be sanded completely to enhance colour.
With other woods it can only be dulled , as removing it completely will
Turn the wood ‘white” ,not working well with translucent/semi transparent
Stains.

Powersanding does a far superior job of prepaing the wood for stain.
Powerwashing can seriously damage the wood, especially the wetter it gets.
Causing a “fuzzy “ texture, or scoring(lines) on the boards.

Resulting in Powersanding being required anyway.
Woods (other than cedar) get very soft when wet, becoming easy to damage
With the power of a powerwasher.
There is only one situation where we offer a price to powerwash.
If after the powersanding, there is still seriously blackened wood, we will offer
a price to powerwash this, applying a cleansing solution first.
